Update to eBrandon moderation
2/9/2009 at 2:52 PM
Good afternoon all,
With the continued growth of eBrandon, it's become pretty clear that the way this site is operated should grow with it. As we have more and more folks chipping in with their two cents on more and more discussion topics, there becomes a point where one human being shouldn't be overseeing everything if it's to continue to grow.
With that in mind, beginning this afternoon eBrandon is now moderated in part by an "eBrandon Moderation Council." Those are a few fancy words for a group of regular everyday users of this site that have the ability to help out by indicating whether a post they've read is something that's against specific site rules (slander, swearing, advertising, etc... stuff that if you're the type of person to read this far, you've been around long enough to know we try to stay away from in order to maintain eBrandon as a respectible environment for all).
In total there are 16 people across all different types of backgrounds that will remain anonymous so that they don't have to change anything about how they use the site. To be fair, one of the most important pieces of criteria I used in picking these 16 is how often they have used the site and/or how many posts they have compared to other users. Many of these are also folks who have had a history of sending me PMs/emails in the past when they notice something that they feel I should look at.
Based on all of these I could get an idea of who might be interested. These are all very trustworthy people, but in order to create a fair democratic system no one person in the group has the ability to remove another person's post by themself. Suspect posts are only dealt with after receiving feedback from multiple people, and if a post happens to be addressed a PM is automatically sent outlining the reasons.
As time goes on, the intention is to give others this same opportunity as we bring eBrandon closer to being a site "by the people, for the people" so to speak.
At the same time I'd just like to clarify that the rules are exactly the same and the site is exactly the same, we just have a group of people helping to make enforcing them more consistent.
And as always, any time you have questions, concerns or suggestions... such as noticing a post that think just isn't right... please drop me a note. Thanks to everyone who continues to make this site a stop in their day, and a site that over 6,000 daily unique visitors see fit to be a part of!
