I need some opinions on cordless (battery operated) lawn mowers. I do not know if I should buy one if they work really well. My yard is small and no trees.  
For those who bought one could you share your experience with those mowers. Do they cut good with enough power charged? Any brand company I should avoid or which company is the best to buy?  
Maintenance should be to nothing compare to gas lawn mowers other than recharge it. They are quiet expensive I see at canadian tire or homedepot going from $300 to $600

If you like to be annoyed and frustrated then I would get a electric mower but personally I would only ever have a gas mower. No need to worry if my batteries are charged, no need to worry about having to replace batteries, or if I will get my yard done before they die etc.  
 
There isn't a big huge maintenance schedule you need to do with a gas mower. I certainly wouldn't let that deter me. I am pretty slack on mine, maybe change the oil every second year (takes 5 mins), the odd plug change and air filter again all of 5 minutes. Pour in gas, pull and go.

A Ryobi cordless mower a couple yearrs back and I must say it has exceeded all expectations .  
A great mower that has long lasting battery life and we have 3 lots .

We had a trusty gas mower for years (it was a hand-me-down of a hand-me-down, so probably 20 years old), and finally it bit the dust and my husband wanted an electric mower. I told him only if we could get a rechargable one because I do some of the mowing and I was worried I would run over a cord (I have cut through a cord with a hedge trimmer, so considering my record...)  
 
What a colossal waste of money. Not only are they expensive to buy, but they're much, much heavier than a gas mower. I struggle to push it up the little incline where I would have no problem with our old gas mower even when it was down to three wheels. It took forever to charge, and while it had a removable battery so we could charge it in the house (we don't have a garage), it was soooo heavy to lug it back outside and put it back in the machine.  
 
To top it all off, within a couple of years the battery stopped holding an adequate charge and we could only do 1/2 our yard before charging again. Naturally, the warranty had expired after the first year so...  
 
I went out and bought a cheap gas mower, and haven't looked back.  
 
If you have a small lot, you might look at a manual mower. My husband had one for his teeny-tiny lawn when I met him. I worked well for what he had.

The first rechargeable mower I bought was a used one off of eBrandon and I used it for 4 years until the battery wouldn't hold a charge. If I remember correctly, the person I bought it from had it for 4 years prior, so I think it did fairly well as that person had a really big yard. This is the third summer now for the replacement mower that I bought. It's a Greenworks 40v mower and I couldn't be happier with it. There's no way I would ever go back to a loud, stinky gas mower again. I have no idea what kind of mower Abbysmum above had, but the one we have is light and easily maneuverable and super easy to start with a push button. We have a 50 x 120 foot lot and it barely uses half of the battery's charge to do our yard. We also just purchased this year a rechargeable grass trimmer and leaf blower and they work wonderfully! I wish more people would use battery powered tools as to lessen the air and noise pollution that the old fashioned gas ones spew.

Btw, I also did try out a manual reel mower and didn't like it. It was fine if you were trimming no more than 1/2" at a time off, but once the grass got longer than that it didn't leave a nice cut at all. I also like having a bag on the mower if the grass got way longer than I wanted it to, and with a 40 volt battery there's lots of power to cut super thick, long grass as well, so you don't have to worry about that either.

No no I do not like gas mower. My past experience years meant fight to pull the cord but if I buy a new one sure it will great then after 3-4 years I'll start fight with pulling the cord to make it start and I do not have a partner to help me out with maintenance of oil or sharpening or anything else may go wrong with the mower so noway for gas mower.  
Plus I have right now a reel mower which is great for not making noise and no smell when cutting the grass but blade doesn't seem to cut evenly in places in the yard in my opinion.  
I thought battery operated mower may cut better evenly and may be not noise either as gas mower. I really like the low noise mower.

brand you buy, make sure it is a good one.  
We bought a 36 volt rechargeable in 2014 and the battery is already dead. My yard is only a standard city lot. It was a brand from the big store with the red triangle logo. I have had a heck of a time this spring trying to get a replacement battery from them. The replacement battery is in their product catalogue. They mentioned they could order and have in 2 weeks. So I did. They never bothered to order it and I got my refund 3 weeks later. Learned my lesson. Go to a store and spend the extra money for a good one. I purchased it because it was the right thing to do and I hated the gas one because of extra maintenance, etc. We were buying a cheap gas one every 4 years. Now I may be stuck buying another battery one 3 years later if I cannot find a battery for this one. Pains me to just throw the mower away! Spend the money get a good one!!!!

big store with triangle logo. Got it! Maybe I'll try collyer's sales & service if they carry those type of mower and them should have some service for you.

Have you tried Prairie Battery beside the Shell station on 18th St? The guys there are great, I bet they can find you a replacement battery, or get your old one rebuilt for you. Might be worth a look.

I have a battery operated lawn mower with the bag. I don''t recall the brand but I loved it!! It charged fairly quickly and last summer when I tested it it ran ran for 55minutes before dying. Perfect size for a city yard. I don''t use it anymore now that I live out of town (Forrest) with a bigger yard which wouldn''t be a big deal but it requires the bag (with the yard I got I don't want to empty the bag)to always be attached or it clogs up as it doesn''t have a hole to blow out the side. If anyone is interested in testing it out I have been thinking of selling it. Just pm me.

Batteries have come a long way. Our yard is much too large for a rechargeable mower, but we do have a Greenworks chainsaw and weed trimmer. Love both of them. I use the weed trimmer to keep the grass cut under my electric sheep fence, and it's every bit as powerful as a gas trimmer with no starting problems. The batteries are interchangeable, which is nice. Don't know about lawnmowers but their other tools are great.

I love my battery operated lawn mower so does my neighbour like hers

which brand company did you get

My husband has always used a gas mower, but he's the one that does all the work. He has never had problems with a gas mower!

LOVE ours. Never had an issue with battery power, or holding a charge, it's very light, easy to manoeuvre, and very quiet, it great.

We've had a cordless for about 5 years. It doesn't hold its charge like it used to but worked great for the 5 previous years. I got it so the kids could use it and not have to try and start a gas one. Now that the kids are older I went back to a gas one. I''''ve got our old one plugged in now and will test it to see how long it actually goes. If you have a small yard it might be enough to get it done. I''ll sell it to you cheap!

Ryobi fr home depot comes with two batteries

Ryobi and ego I was thinking to get from home depot but also there is Stihl battery lawn mower from Enns brothers on north hill maybe to consider.

for those who bought the greeenworks twin force lawn mower I want to know if you like it. it is a 2 blades of 10" rotating in differently.

Mine worked great for about 5 seasons. Now the battery doesn't charge well and I am very careful about keeping it in the house during the winter and fully charging it every time..oh well. It is fairly heavy too, compared to a plug in mower.

We are on season 4 with our lithium ion battery powered mower and I love it, no jerry can with gas in the garage and I literally hold a button to get it going, it's also so quiet I could mow in the middle of the night without bothering the neighbours!  
We also added a battery powered trimmer that same year to our fleet and last year a hedge trimmer. We have 2 batteries for all 3 items and they still hold their charge well, we keep in house during winter.  
I can also fit any piece in my car and lift it in with one hand as they are nice and lightweight!  
I bought all my items at Kokke's Small Engine in Shoal Lake, fantastic service and fair price!

have a yard works 40v mower & 40v weed whacker. They work great!  
We live on a giant corner lot, lots of trees etc, but the batteries between all the yard works stuff can be swapped between & there is more than enough charge to get our whole yard mowed & edged with the 2 (though not enough with just the mower battery as it''''s a HUGE yard!)  
 
I love it! It''''s light, east to use, bags as you mow, really couldn''''t be happier Batteries charge pretty quick too! After first charge I should say, right out of the box 1st charge took like 4 hours, but even running it right out now it''s charged in a couple hours.  
 
We previously had a gas mower and a plug in. Plig in is a pain because of the cord. Gas, well unless you're mechanically inclined or have someone to show you what to do/ how to trouble shoot the maintenance costs were prohibitive. I'm so happy with our electrics even if something needs trouble shooting you don't need to be a freaking mechanic to figure it out & probably fix it yourself they're so basic!

I liked the one I had.. for a little while. Then the battery started to go. Would be fully charged and die right away. Got so frustrating. I would never buy one again. I loved how it worked etc while it worked.. it just did not work long enough!
