Excuse me if I am behind here or if there has been multiple discussions about this in the past. It is just I have hit the tipping point with the cable provider in this city and the increase in rates that it has informed customers of recently. Service seems to be second to rates in my opinion. So I am looking for ways to be able to cut my costs and keep local news and weather on my tv. Has anyone had experience with any of the HD amplified indoor antennas here in Brandon? Can we receive any channels that way? The other cable stuff is easy to find but I would snip the coaxial permanently if I could find some local channels. Even $25 for these channels per month is too much to spend in my mind!

If you have unlimited data on your computer you could get a Roku machine at Wal-Mart for $40 and you will have all the tv you could watch.

We watch the CTV news nightly. I stream content from several sources without problem. The Canadian channels are almost exclusively Toronto I find. It is that local content that I cannot find!! FYI....I had a ROKU and hated it!

I had the Phillips outdoor amplified antenna, and found it to be a poorly engineered device that performed accordingly. for in Brandon, there's two channels available, one is HD. It is in my opinion, not necessary to get an amplified antenna, since signal strength is decently high and urban clutter minimal.  
the biggest problem is that the two channels come from towers located in totally opposite directions. so, putting the "front" of any antenna toward one channel will cause the other to be at the "back".  
 
Thus, a set of "rabbit ears" might actually be the best antenna for use here on these two channels.  
 
CKY Winnipeg: Channel 4 analog. length of each ear: 120cm(42 inches)  
CKND Winnipeg: "channel 2" actual frequency channel 9 from Basswood(minnedosa). length of each ear: 20cm15.5 inches)

I use rabbit ears and get Global in perfect HD and CTV in grainy snowy SD. The taxpayer funded CBC is nowhere to be found.

They do make 65, 100 and even 150 mile indoor and outdoor antenna. Whether you would have any luck getting anything other then Global for digital channels is another story, maybe so if one lives near Melita or Waskada.  
 
It wouldn't surprise me too much if one can't get CTV over the air anymore.
