Deals or plans on cell packages. Wanting to stay away from MTS as they have gotten so expensive

Your options are Rogers and Telus since you want to stay away from Bell/MTS. There is also Rogers and Telus's "budget" options Koodo (Telus) and Fido (Rogers) and the good thing they all have websites and post their deals and plans online for you to look at and make a decision.

Sick of these big cell phone service providers that try to force me into a contract I don't want or start charging monthly fees for pay-go accounts and steal my airtime minutes. The crap these companies get away with should be illegal.  
 
Is there such a thing as a true "burner phone" available in Canada? I just want to be able to go into a store and buy a phone...cheap. When the airtime on it expires, I can either throw it away or buy a $10 or $20 card and put it in. No accounts and no contracts. I don't even care about keeping the same phone number. That's what I want.

Lucky mobile is cheap. We pay $15/month.  
 
There's always Pay as You Go options too from places like Rogers.

Rogers has good customer service and good cell phone plans

All companies offer a pay as you go option. Not sure why you’re under the impression they don’t. Either bring a phone you fully own, or buy out a phone to use this option.
