Command Start Pros and Cons

Need to know what the pros and cons of the phone app style command starts are vs the key fob style. Don't need much, just something that can send a signal to vehicle from within a building. If phone app, what brand has the best subs:cription rates?

My Kia has the app style command start (UVO intelligence)

At first, I thought hey this is cool and fun. Then reality sunk in....at the family farm, middle of winter, freezing cold out and NO CELL SERVICE!!! Haha

I definitely preferred my old command start with the key fob. So much easier and quicker!

And you also have to get your spouse or children to download the app as well in case they ever drive it without you

Yep that's how mine is. Fob and app. Would never just have the app, it's fun and all but I really never used it much.

Unless I’m a huge idiot (which is entirely possible LOL) no I don’t have a traditional fob command start. It’s the app only.

Factory FCA Command Start

My RAM has the factory command start and the range is almost nil/line of sight only. I want to change to an aftermarket system. Want to know monthly subs:cription rates for different apps. I know Kelleher Tech sells the Viper system for $799 installed with a 3 year subs:cription. Just need for 4-5 months every winter.

A monthly subs:cription service for a car starter? Not trying to be rude but are you serious?? I also couldn't imagine spending $799. Extreme has some black Friday deals for a 2 way starter, range of over a mile under $500 installed.

Best command start

Put my boots on, go outside, insert key in Ignition and start engine . Very simple and no installation or subs:cription required, I guess my truck is very old. Seriously though I have seen too many problems with aftermarket starting systems and would never install one on my own vehicle . Original factory fitment is at least dependable.

I agree go for a two way keyfob system. No subs:cription but will still notify you on the remote if the vehicle has successfully started, locked / unlocked.
