How many GIGS do I need to store old 8mm video?

I have about 50 hours of video that I've taken over the years on an 8mm vidcam and more recently on Mini-DV.
I'd like to transfer these tapes to an external hard-drive and I was wondering if there is a rule of thumb as to what size drive I should buy. (I'd rather not burden my little 'ole laptop with all of it).
I see Future Shop sells a Comstar Platinum 320GB 3.5" External Hard Drive for $150. Is that a good deal and would that be sufficient for 50 or so hours of video? Is it easy to transfer? I likely need a "firewire"? If there's a ton of room, I'd probably back up all my 'puter data as well.
Any techies have some tips/tricks or advice on transferring vidcam footage to an external Hard Drive like that?
