Grrrr...computer problems that are driving me nuts.

We can't shut the computer down as it may not fire up again (long story) so we just leave it on and turn the monitor off.
SOMEONE is this house has been on card-playing or Poker Sites and since then I have terrible pop-ups that are congesting at the bottom tool bar. Every few minutes I have to close them all down.
I'm just not sure what to do when shutting this thing down or fiddling with it too much is out of the question.
Maybe I should run a quick Ad-Aware scan?
