cellphone replacement?

Hey,
Ive been looking to get a cellphone for quite awhile. I'm in Halifax, NS until August 25th on vacation and my fathers girlfriend has an old one laying around. It doesnt necessarly work, it doesnt charge properly. Is there anywhere in Brandon that I can exchange it (without packaging, just the phone and the charger) for a new one, or have somebody take a look at it free of charge to see if its fixable?
