I am looking online to buy an ipad for a cheaper price but it says refurbished so has anyone bought a refurbished device that worked just as great as a new one? Should I trust refurbished items?

I have bought refurbished game consoles no issues. The manufacturer has gone through them to make sure they work

I have bought dozens of refurbished items including iPad, iPhone, audio receiver, Dyson fans and vacuums and have always been satisfied. Most of my purchases have been through Woot. They do not ship to Canada. They provide reduced warranties and $5 shipping. Amazon also carries refurbished items.

I originally had an iPad Air which began to have vertical lines going down the screen. I called apple and sent in in for warranty repair. They couldn't fix it so they decided to send me another refurbished one instead. A few months afterwards, the iPad gradually started to charge slower and slower and until eventually it wouldn''t charge at all. Brought it to the Apple Store and they told me that it would cost $450 to fix. I told them if it was covered under warranty and they told me that I only get 90 days after shipment date, and after the time period it isn't their problem anymore.  
 
Generally I buy refurbished things and have never had any problems. But this was the first time I have had to pay a large amount of money out of pocket.
