Any free movies?

Are any of the pay per view type services offering free movies to us while we are shut in? I'm paying $6.99 per movie through Bell satellite. They must be profiting from the covid 19 situation. My cell phone provider (rogers is providing free domestic long distance and free roaming. (like anyone is roaming now).

Well you could sign up for Netflix is like $12 a month or whatever, I think the first month is free. You could watch free movies on Amazon Video if you have a Prime subs:cription (if not I am sure there is a free trial) Other than those all I can think of. Otherwise you might just actually have to pay a few dollars for entertainment. As the old saying goes good things in life aren't free

My point is that some companies are ignoring profits and doing what they can to help during this crisis. Whereas cable companies, etc., are profiting. TV watching is up. Internet usage is up. Facebook and YouTube traffic is way up. People are profiting and not contributing (that I know of). It would cost the cable companies nothing to up their customers from basic to full service.

Appreciate that replies have been focused on legal options. You’ll have to take a look to see if the selection is what you had in mind, but the Hoopla app/website via the library is another option:

Obviously they have smartphone apps but also looks like avail on most Smart TV platforms. If you’re in Brandon and need a (no extra charge) membership they’re taking signups by phone during the pandemic at 204-727-6648. I gather phones are staffed 9-5, M-F

Not movies and not library, but if you have kiddos you’ll thank yourself for doing a search for the “knowledge kids” app in smartphone and smart tv app stores. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at the quality of content they stream for zero dollars and zero cents, pretty sure if I was tracking I'd find we watch even more kids content on it than Netflix.

But the cable companies do have to pass money on to broadcasters when they sign people up for their channels.

Doesn’t change the fact that they are billion dollar profitable companies, but it does cost them to give premium channels for free.

Disney+ gives the first week free as well.

Bell MTS has given everyone a few free movie channels :70’s,80’s, 90’s, 2000’s and some free kid Channels. You could sign up for Netflix, Crave, Amazon, Disney Etc most offer a few days to a month free trial. Amazon has a 30 day free trial they actually have decent selection of newer movies and lots of good oldies lol.

If I'm not mistaken, you need to create an account with Hoopla and would create your own password, and then provide your library card number to access the content for free. Not sure you need your library account password, but if you do, it is generally the phone number that the library has on file for you, unless you change it.

If you have a fire stick, Apple TV, PlayStation any iPhone, Android etc... you can download an app called TUBI. It’s 100% free with no strings attached, the more popular movies will run a 30 second ad every once in a while like YouTube but it’s not annoying. Lots of old tv shows, awesome collection of documentaries!!
