Canadian military hiding true number of casualties
10/1/2007 at 1:11 PM
In CBC news today, the Canadian military is not telling reporters when soldiers are injured, sometimes as seriously as losing a limb nor releasing statistics on the matter to the public. This is very worrisome to me. Even the US which declared, "we don't do body counts" when it came to civilians and enemy soldiers and tried to prevent the release of pictures of coffins is releasing casualty numbers.
With modern medicine, the number of dead is relatively low compared to the number of injured but many of these injuries are going to have a massive lifelong impact for soldiers. Sounds to me like the government doesn't want the Canadian public to know the true cost of the war out of fear that public opinion will turn even more against it than it already is.
