Manitoba Hydro issued a release that states customers in communities along the Transcanada highway between Portage and Deleau starting Wed 29 and ending Thurs 30.  
 
Purpose is for the lines to be raised to accomodate a ready to move home along the Transcanada highway.  
 
Outages should last about 30 minutes. The starting times of the outages are dependent on the progress of the transport. It's also going to create travel delays.  
 
Communities affected include:  
 
Austin  
Carberry  
Douglas  
Chater  
Campbell's Trailer Court  
Brandon  
Alexander  
Griswold  
Oak Lake  
Deleau

Well I realize it has to be done but how much do you want to bet just as I start cooking something the power will go out!

I didn't realize they would disrupt thousands of customers service to accommodate moving a single home.

Hope the power isen't off long with this pending rain and those using sump pumps !!! (me included)

If you have a cell phone that is charged and able to add to this thread, could the people in Douglas and Chater let Brandon know when their power goes out so we do not start a major electrical project like laundry or supper or an essay.  
 
A reminder to save your computer work often, especially on this Wednesday and Thursday.  
 
I am worried about the sump pump as well as the radar map is showing lots of rain to the west but the weather network is not predicting any to fall.  

the financial impact on all the businesses along the way. There are a lot of business that rely on the 11am-1pm customer rush that taking 30 minutes out of will mean several hundred dollars of potential revenue lost.

Time for businesses to upgrade to UPS backups or a generator if they don't want their critical systems going down. As for the rest, go for a walk, it will help with the unwarranted self importance.

 
This is a first world problem.  
 
I went to Virden yesterday and the entire town was shut down because of a power outage. Our computer dependency is robbing us of our independence,  
 
I have talked to people who have lived overseas and listened to their frustration regarding the lack of reliable electric service. My immediate thought is "Isn't it amazing the we live in a country where our infrastructure is so reliable we are almost guaranteed electric service. Our roads are so good and company work ethic is such that this prediction can even be made."  
 
Also thanks to this Ebrandon post so we can plan our day accordingly.

It's not self-importance, more like self-preservation. As mentioned by others, a forced shut down of a business is not a minor inconvenience. Let's not forget this is travel season, coming up on a long weekend and those people trying to make a living get hard hit by events like this.  
also, if you've ever had to rely on a sump pump to keep your basement dry you'd realize you can't just chill and "take a walk".

Its 30 minutes of expected down time. If your business is "suffering" over 30 minutes of down time, its time to rethink that business plan. As for the sump pump, if you are that concerned go buy one of these. If your basement floods after 30 minutes of your pump not running, you need to hire a contractor.

Never even thought of the sump pump! Hopefully it doesn't decide to rain. Last year our basement flooded in 10 minutes due to a power outage and heavy rain!  
 

We all know that at times houses and sometimes other large objects need to be moved along our roads, and some of these exceed the height of the power lines, I just wonder if we would all be so critical if it was OUR house that was being moved. As for lost business and income because of the power being off, I would like to remind people that at any given moment a transformer could fail and it would take more than half an hour to get up and running again. This outage came with a warning that it would happen, maybe in this busy world of ours enjoy the half hour off.

Wow, people it's a half an hour! If you're business is going to be hit that hard by a 30 minute power outage then you really need to "use your head" and have a generator on hand. Same goes with a sump pump to have a backup generator if it'll flood your basement in that short of time. At least you have forewarning now, what if this was in the middle of the night and lasted 24 hours? Oh, the chaos that would ensue!! Get over it people.

We are being advised of this outage.  
 
Had a hydro guy come into yard (did not hear him drive in) and replace meter and did not come to house to tell me he was doing it and lost a half hour of work. Now have a battery back up so this won't happen again. Cost about $125 on sale.  
 
With these strong winds today I wouldn't be surprised if there were power outages anyways or they might not move building today because of the winds. Give the hydro guys and movers a break as this probably won't be a nice job today with these strong winds.  
 
As someone posted earlier if eBrandon posters keep track of power outages in their area we can be a little more prepared as to when they are getting close to your area.

I realize it needs to be done and am not complaining. It will just be a major annoyance depending on the time it happens.

Tree must of been blown down no power here for last 1/2 hour!

Sounds like the house should be coming up on Brandon soon... last reported location being between the city and Camp Hughes. Not clear if any outage would effect just specific parts of the city close to Hwy 1, or a larger area?

45 minutes still power out. Lots of hydro trucks driving around

Traffic lights at 1st and Trans Canada were out 10 mins ago. I assume because of the house move (saw it by Quintans). No one directing traffic and flow was heavy I presume due to the house holding up traffic. Needless to say it was a gong show, accident waiting to happen...

Power on. It was out for 1 hour. We are on the same grid as lights on 1st and no 1 highway

I have been expecting at least a flicker because I am in the old part of Kirkcaldy, but there was no disruption in power all day.  
 
So I guess the rest of the city was not affected either, just the area around the TCH.  

would of been planned for weeks. The movers would of needed permits from the Province, co-operation of MB Hydro and other agencies along the route. They likely would of been only permitted to move during daylight hours.  
 
In this case it looks like they only needed to lift the powerlines, some taller moves require disconnecting the lines.  
 
Imagine moving old grain elevators or churches.
