By the way, did you know that deer, elk, moose, skunks, mice, rats, coyotes and every other animal that doesn't have birth control available to them or know how to use it is usually "perpetualy pregnant"?

Got to sort of chuckle at your comment. Our neighbour to the south has no milk marketing board or system to control the supply of milk or price, and they have the very same type of dairy industry. Oh, maybe I should add something else, in the American system you get big increases in supply at times which results in large culls of the herd, and if you think that they are put out on pasture until needed your wrong.  
 
Your personal feelings about milk and the industry are just that, your feelings, and are not really shared by the majority of people. Milk is a protein source that is a part of many people's diet and in some ways is not easily replace as with other proteins.  
 
As for the chuckling part, was in a building that was full of people all working in tiny little offices, no real sunlight, no fresh air, very little movement allowed, just didn't seem right by my standards, but apparently it's happening all over the world, truely not a natural thing, add to that that many times the children of these people are being raised by not their parents but sometimes by government, with promises of more spaces and money available to keep the people working and the children cared for. Yep, in a way I have to agree, those poor, poor creatures

Had a friend growing up whose family ran one here in westman, don't see what that has to do with anything.  
 
Sure those named animals are perpetually pregnant, that's not the issue, its a little different, they aren't forcibly impregnated and don't have their babies taken away soon after being born, if you don't understand what a maternal bond is, ask your mother.  
 
You can't compare human working conditions to this, show me a career or job where humans are forcibly impregnated, kept in booths hooked up to pumps until they get chronic painful infections, have their babies torn away over and over, and then finally when they are of no further use, shot in the head.  
 
They're not personal feelings, they are observations, again, big difference.  
 
I can make a complete protein source by mixing rice and lentils, their own amino acid profiles form a complete one together, and cheaper than protein sourced from milk. You don't need the calcium either, I can pull up legit articles shedding light on the harmful effects of calcium derived from milk, there's actually an inverse relationship between milk consumption and osteoporosis, as counter intuitive as that might sound.  
 
If you take a cow and shoot it in the head and butcher it up, there's no issue in that, we're an omnivorous species, its in our nature, I eat beef all the time.  
 
Or take a happy farmyard freegrazing cow or goat and milk with a bucket, like how was done for thousands of years, no issue with that either, probably be no pus or blood traces in the milk either.  
 
But that's all I'm going say about it, so as to keep this thread about the election.

I guess my reply had to do with you comment that things would change with the removal of the milk marketing board, because regardless of your opinions, or mine, on milk production and use or even necessity of milk in our diet, that fact is it won't. Under this deal conditions may even worsen for dairy cows. The average size of Canadian dairies is still very small, I think the number is just under 80 cows, where as in the US there are dairies that are 10's of thousands of cows on one location. Being that the cows,and there treatment, are your concern, who do you believe would take better care of there animals, a person who has a small number of animals, or a industrial dairy who have thousands of animals.

Make a speedy decision now - just realized hubby will be away on election day so we need to take advantage of the advance polls. It will be my first time using the advance polls....could be a party!! JK.  
 
I have no clue whatsoever. I know with all certainty that NDP is out for us, guess I have to do up a pros and cons list tonight.  
 
I think right now it will be Red or Green. I agree with more of the Conservative policies, and that he will represent Canada best on the world stage, but the secrecy and corruption that has come to light under the Cons is hard to ignore.  
 
The TPP is a bigger nail coffin too... I am waiting to see the details (which are supposed to be released today), but I fail to see how signing an agreement that will hamper some larger exports for your GNP so that you have to augment their business with tax money is a good move....

Anyone thinking of voting Green, your vote will do a lot more good for the Greens in the long term if you vote strategically to oust a Tory.

I will not vote Green this election, specifically because I want my Green vote to count in future elections.

It's just a bit disheartening for anyone who would like to see a change to listen to the pollsters. Curtis Brown of Probe Research has stated that he doesn't think there will be any change in Brandon-Souris (McGuire) or Dauphin Swan River Neepawa (Sopuk).  
Have to wonder if these type of predictions discourage a lot of voters?

Sure, strategic voting may mean you have to hold your nose, but if it brings in a government that will reform our electoral system, then it is worth it.  
 
The conservatives are the ONLY party who insists that our First Past the Post electoral system is fair and equitable for all. I'm sure they mean themselves - ask any Green party supporter how fair it is.  
 
The last poll I saw showed Maguire with a 1 point lead over Liberal Jodi Wyman. Don't forget that in the 2013 by-election, Maguire won by less than 500 votes.  
 
Is it possible for a non-conservative to win this riding? When I first moved here about 9 years ago, I believed that the conservatives could run a Holstein and win here. Now I'm a little more optimistic.  
 
Personally, I will be voting for the non-blue candidate that is highest in the polls just before voting day. I'm not telling anyone else how to vote, but I would encourage everyone - students and young people in particular - to just get out and vote. Please.

I think it's funny how the politicians, especially the leaders, on the left are just borrowing the worn out "Hope and Change" cliché from Barrack Obama's presidential campaign. If "change" means going around the world signing one deal after another, all of them being deals that are bad for your own country like Barrack Obama has been doing or if it means crippling or even shutting down our country's most important industry, introducing new taxes intended to punish people for using a legally available product (oil) and essentially "opening the gates" wide open for anyone who says that they are a refugee, when they can't even prove that they are and we can't even verify who they are, then we sure don't need that kind of "change".  
 
The truth is, we don't need "change" at all. Despite the constant whining of those on the left, who mainly are whining because they haven't been able to shove their left-wing agenda down our throats for the past several years, things are actually pretty good right now in Canada. The unemployment rate for August of this year was 7 percent. I can remember during the '90s, when the unemployment rate was creeping up on 10 percent while the Chretien Liberals were in office, but the highest unemployment rate since the 1930s occurred while Pierre Trudeau and his Liberal government were in office in 1982, when the unemployment rate reached a whopping 13.1 percent! Now admittedly, the economy isn't as good as it was four or five years ago, but it's a long way from being terrible.  
 
If ISIS is a political group and not a religious group, then perhaps you can explain why they continue to kill people who refuse to convert to the religion of Islam. If ISIS is a political group and not a religious group, why would they even care whether or not their captives convert? Why wouldn't they just kill everyone they capture and not demand that they convert?  
 
So the Conservatives managed to balance the budget...so what? If they hadn't balanced it you would be complaining about that, but because they did manage to balance the budget the left are complaining anyway. At the same time, Justin Trudeau says he will deliberately run deficits and his supporters are fine with that. Those deficits that he intends to "run deliberately" can very easily get out of control.

I remember there was a lot of anger about the nomination process in that riding, many people feeling he had an unfair advantage. Wonder if that still holds true.

I find it fascinating that some who have vilified Selinger and the Manitoba NDP for dishonesty,breaking promises and running deficits, are supporting Harper and the federal Conservatives despite dishonesty, breaking promises and running deficits. I guess their standards and values are "flexible".

when they would vote for a fly in candidate from Toronto who's last name just happened to be Dinsdale and has never been heard from or seen since. Sheesh!  

Ever announce numbers that turn out in advance polls? I know they do not count votes before election day, but it would be very interesting to see how many people get out there early.  
 
I was there right after lunch and wow were there line ups.

Shows the minset of the local voter could be taken so many different ways, parachute candidate lost by only 500 votes to the incumbent, does that mean that peolpe were really unhappy with the conservatives at that time. I've never considered insulting other peoples intelligence a wise thing to do.

Maybe they were of the mind that they were ready for a change. With a local Brandon lawyer on the ballot this time instead of a "fly in candidate", the margin could be even smaller (either way).  
Could make for an interesting photo finish.  
In any case, I believe I heard the Prime Minister saying just this morning in B.C. where the pundits believe the election will be won or lost, that the electorate is always right. Let's hope so.  

the nomination process for Larry was flawed, if it had been run ethically I expect that he would have still won the nomination. the aroma of the fix from on high has peed off a lot of people that have switched allegiance in protest. it would be easier locally to vote liberal if Trudeau was not involved.

Greens have as good or better chance as liberal at defeating Larry maguire in Brandon Souris. The boundaries for brandon-souris riding have been re-drawn since the 2013 by-election. Among the changes two reserves have been removed from the riding. Polls based on 2013 results will not accurately reflect the populous.  
With the liberal support of C-51 and probable support of TPP I can not support a liberal candidate.

so my facebook friends are pressuring me to vote "a certain way", saying my vote counts! Funny how the consensus is that many are saying they will vote for the "lesser of the three evils". Makes me chuckle. How I see some truth in that.  
My take is when you get a bad poker hand dealt to you, you draw a whole new hand because the three or more cards you have AREN'T WORKING FOR YOU.

OK, friends...if the election results for our local MP are tied, then you can bash me for not voting for 'the big three'. I will humbly repent and also run naked through the street, yelling _____ (our new PM) is KING!

I too find it interesting that SJK, who always foments against the provincial NDP, is willing to overlook the lies, deceit and broken promises along with the muzzling of scientists, destruction of scientific libraries, the DUFFY/SENATE scandal, The Brazeau Scandal, the Wallin Scandal, The deficit, the broken promise on getting rid of the Senate (instead he has filled the Senate at every opportunity, no elections at all for Senate!). On and on it goes. . .  
 
SJK and others who want to re-elect this demigod, Harper, how do you defend the list of broken promises?

You failed to mention Mac Harb (Liberal Senator who's expense claims were also false), three Liberal MPs with false expenses (http://www.ottawasun.com/2013/05/23/liberals-are-hypocritical-in-blasting-senate-scandal-james-moore) and the $2.7 million that the NDP still owe the government for inappropriate MP expenses.  
 
The Liberals and NDP both had scandals when they weren't in power. How can we trust they'd act any different if they were actually in charge?
