A pathetic joke of government violated his Canadian rights, so his lawyers sued the government and won, now he is being compensated, that's how it works, you don't get to deny any citizen his rights because you don't think he should have any, blame who ever was in power at the time for not doing their job, if we paid what it cost back then, to help him and not abandon him it would have not only looked better might have cost less.

People on here obviously have no compassion or empathy.  
 
From every account I've come across, Omar Khadr's father was a very terrible militant terrorist and enlisted his son as a child soldier.  
 
Thinking that this young boy, who has never known what we in Canada would consider 'normal' would somehow define his own morality in opposition of what his father, uncles, neighbors and every other person in his life has is crazy and unreasonable.  
 
For what it's worth, no existing international tribunal has EVER tried a child soldier for war crimes.  
 
The rest of the world understands how a child's impressionable mind operates and corrupts, how come ebrandon does not?

I read somewhere that the U.S. family of the dead U.S. soldier is going after the crazy money he has been awarded. I don't know how that can be enforced given different countries and all that. That soldiers family was awarded $134.1 million.

The Canadian government violated his rights, broke the law, so even if you don't like the guy, he can sue the government for it, he won if there was anyway out for the government lawyers would have found it, and told him to get lost, but they didn't, sympathy has nothing to do with it.

is guilty only of being complicit in his detainment, tortured confession, lack of lawyer, etc etc.  
 
was it the canadian military or the C Gov't that dumped him on the US to be held with out representation.

the US Govt for doing it,  
Kadr for throwing the grenade in the first place,  
and the Judge/judges for awarding 10 million. note that I said the judge and not the court, the court is just a fancy name the judge can hide behind.  
 
pretty sad, although he should never see a penny as the soldiers family should get first dibs at his 10 million.

Seems to me Omar's father was a real piece of human trash that taught Omar to be a murdering SOB without compassion.

A good decision was made today in a court room in Regina when the judge decided to impose and adult sentence on a young 'man' that murdered his ex-girlfriend. He committed the crime when he was fifteen years of age too.

I see the pay out as supporting terrorism. You aren't a child anymore when you start throwing grenades at others. I don't care what influence or duress he may have been under, to me that's no excuse to take a life. It is wrong to take a life to save your own.

That is correct why do people just assume it is Trudeau that decided to pay this? If anything Harper government would be the ones to blame as they held office when he was in jail, but then it still isn't correct: Supreme Court of Canada has ruled on this. It the government. I personally think it's a slap in the face to Canadians and do hope the family from the USA takes everything he has.

I hope that every bit of money that he receives will be awarded to the widow and family of US Army Sgt. First Class Christopher Speer. This is Cdn taxpayer's money, so some of it is mine and I'll be damned if I want Khadr to get even one cent!

He is a terrorist, pure and simple. He was old enough, at the time he threw the grenade, to understand that he was committing murder. He is now being rewarded by the court system. If this was guaranteed money, why did his lawyers settle on 10.5?  
 
People have been wrongly found guilty and spent 25 years in jail and only get 1 to 4.5 million. It usually takes years to get paid.  
 
This guy is a killer and we gave him 10.5 in a sneaky way that has Trudeau out of the country and the families of the people he killed blocked from getting the money they have already been awarded.

I wonder what the outcome would have been if he was killing Canadians.

You need to tell the truth when you post.  
And the questions are simple  
 
Why was this done in an underhanded way that protects Trudeau from needing to answer any questions.  
 
Why was the payment larger than we would pay Canadians that actually live in Canada and are wrongly treated by the law? Some have spent 25 years in jail and only received a couple of million.  
 
Why did he get paid in a manner that blocks the dead military families from seeing the money that the courts say this killer should pay them?  
 
I asked you a question, if he was killing Canadian solders, would you still support the government giving him 5 million per canadian he tried to kill..

Just to inform you, he never did sue the government as you suggest. Trudeau agreed to pay out this compensation before letting the legal system make a decision. We assume to be 10.5 million but Trudeau has not provided proof of the actual amount.  
 
Coincidentally Trudeau paid this amount before the American Soldiers wife was able to file an injunction in Canada. If Trudeau would have waited for it to be decided in courts, the widowed wife would have had a chance of any compensation Omar received to be sent directly to her. So now when her suit goes through in Canada against Omar for killing her husband, she is less likely to receive the funds.

It was a crap shoot for both sides the government was found guilty every time it went to court where already in for 5 million so far, it wasn't going to be peanuts, and yes he is a killer, tried and convicted and did his time, it was the government on trial this time not him, you don't get to violate his rights because of crimes he has committed in the past, and they started violating them before he ever saw a court room, 10 million while hes still: a young man I would have taken it, he could be dead tomorrow.

This entire issue (killing, jailing, and torture) occurred when Canada was under Liberal leadership. When this issue came into discussion originally, Stephen Harper agreed to Repatriate Omar as remediation. Currently, Omar was going to take the case to courts, but instead of letting the courts decided Canada's wrongdoing in the situation and issue the proper penalty to Canadian government Trudeau decided to just throw money Omar's way and avoid the courts.
