Apple iPad - uses

So now that the iPad is out for a few weeks. Can anyone tell me what it is useful for? I assume it is going to costs more since the iPad is not really useful without apps.
I test drove the iPad at Futureshop but found nothing I can make use of, but perhaps someone can change my mind.
