Thunderstorm potential this afternoon/this evening
6/8/2010 at 2:30 PM
For eBrandon's weather watchers, it looks like a fairly favourable setup for thunderstorms in Westman this afternoon.... enhanced by the fact that we've had a good amount of sunshine so far today. According to the Prairie and Arctic Storm Prediction Centre, there is a concern that the right dynamics are in place for there to be cold core (less serious, but still potentially dangerous) funnel clouds. Any storms that we may get are expected to be what they call "pulse" storms, rather than your full-out supercell thunderstorm... but do have potential for hail.
As I type this, I see that one has popped up just Northwest of the city in the last 15-20 minutes that includes up to 1 inch hail according to radar.
No watches or warnings in place as of right now, however EC has noted in their forecast the risk of a "severe" storm this afternoon.
