Conditions will be favourable for the development of funnel clouds today.  
 
A trough of low pressure arching east to west across the southern Interlake into southwestern Manitoba is expected to trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. With a drier air mass entering the region most of these thunderstorms will be weak. However converging winds near the trough line may provide enough rotation for funnel clouds to form.  
 
At around 2:00 pm CDT RCMP in Ste. Rose du Lac received reports from the Eddystone area of funnel clouds. The report indicated that one funnel touched the ground for a few moments and "disturbed the dust". No other reports have been received at this time.

These types of funnel clouds are generated by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms. This weak rotation is normally not a danger near the ground. However, there is a chance that this rotation could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado.  
 
Landspout tornadoes do not usually cause significant damage but can still be dangerous. They can be strong enough to topple trees, damage roofs or toss debris short distances.
