I am looking at switching to MTS. I have been with Rogers for many years, but my family who is on a shared 15GB plan, keeps going over our max data use (regardless of the amount of warnings from me) and my monthly bills are crazy.  
 
I am looking at switching to MTS unlimited data and I am looking to hear from MTS customers who have unlimited data plans if they like MTS and what their speeds are like for downloads on their phones.

I have unlimited Canada wide data and love it. Yes they restrict the speed after 15GB but I rarely go over that and when I have I t's usually been the last day or two of the month. I had really low data cap at home (rural) and used to tether my iPad all the time. I use the Internet a fair amount and iMessage more than text and have 2 email accounts on my phone. . As I said, I've only been restricted for the last couple days of a month but didn't really notice a huge difference in speed on those days. I also love that if I go to another province I still get unlimited.

MTS and Rogers share the same signal, the speeds and service will be very similar. MTS unlimited data is very nice, but if you are a heavy user, you will get throttled if you exceed 15gb per billing cycle. This is 15gb per device, not account.

basically, data unlimited up to 15GB is at LTE speed, if you go over that amount, the speed drops to 4G.  
I am definitely switching!

So what is the cost difference? You said your family is on a shared 15GB plan. Will MTS offer you unlimited plan shared between all the family members for same cost? I know that for a 6GB plan unlimited calling across Canada only costs me a lot less than the unlimited MTS plan. Curious to how much extra MTS will charge you for all family members. Also with the access of wifi everywhere how much are your family members using lol.

and they do not have unlimited data, but do offer 60GB for $385/month, plus the cost of your service, etc... They slow down your speed after 15GB usage, same as for MTS.  
 
Basically the rep at Rogers said that there was no plan in the future to offer unlimited data and tried to sell Rogers' LTE speed as compensation for lack of unlimited data plans.  
 
As for MTS, they do not offer a shared plan, but after I calculate unlimited data and lack of overage charges, I am way ahead financially. So MTS is still the better offer.

Had Rogers chargers where very high switched to fido the bill is the same every month even if I am traveling and excellent service

When tried to be billed for over charges I explain the CRTC ruling of sure charge me up to 50 over but that is it. I told them when they text asking if I agree to overage charges I reply only up to 50 dollars as per CRTC ruling. So far rogers is the cheapest for me, also wonderful if I travel to the US. One thing I have wifi at home. That keeps data bills down to next to nothing.

A service provider must suspend data overage charges once they reach $50 within a single monthly billing cycle, unless the customer expressly consents to pay additional charges.  
A service provider must provide this cap at no charge.

They warned me that I was soon to be over, then billed $150 for overage use.  
 
I don't travel to the US and need wireless internet as I live in the boonies, so it still looks like MTS might be the best option so far.  

MTS did the same to me when they had the 400mb out of province data limit. I was dinged the same as you. I had to call in and ask them to only charge me the 50. They reversed everything all the time. Was a hassle but at the time it was cheapest. Now I only pay half of what MTS would be charging me. But since you have high family data MTS might be your best bet. I just couldn't stand paying 95 for the same plan I pay 54 for now....just not unlimited.

MTS now stop any data once out of country and then ask if you want to buy data packs so you can't accidentally rack up high bills. We just use wifi when out of country as it's generally for not very long.

to sound like a really stupid question... but if I have internet at home and am using my phone to surf the net, should I be switching my phone to wifi to save on data usage? I never go over my data but just curious.

Yes you should always be switching to wifi when you are at home, assuming that you have a reliable home internet connection
