First off, for those mentioning holds on cheques, if you are having issues with how much you can take out, it has nothing to do with how you are trying to do the deposit. It has everything to do with the banking limits set on your account. If you need access to more moolah then go to your bank and request your limits be raised. At least that is all I had to do.
Now to answer the op's question...
I use the RBC mobile banking app on my iPhone and I have never had an issue depositing my pay cheques or any cheque for that matter via the app. Just hold onto the cheque for 5 business days in case you do have any issues but after that you can destroy the cheque.
