wondering which place is better for buying a new mountain bike. any input on either would be nice.

Depends what you want to spend. I would recommend looking at both websites and comparing prices. I know we went into a&L and were just looking around and kids bikes weren't cheap but they were higher brand named bikes that you wouldn't normally find at bigger box stores.  
 
I can say this much about A&L, they were exceptional at fixing a youth bike that wasn't originally purchased through them. When we called them they were super helpful and friendly, we dropped off the bike and it was ready for pick-up the next day. Again when I went to pick it up they were all super friendly.

Both are great. Great service, great quality and lots of options to choose from. Shop at both. Either way you likely won't be disappointed.

both are good but the guys over at A&L go above and beyond in the service department, very helpful, friendly and quick

Joe brooks has over 50 nice bikes on there show room floor and has a full bike shop now. I’d check em out

I have always shopped at A&L and have had exceptional service. I can not comment on Stream and Wood, as I haven't been there. I am a middle aged 'jog and trail ride for fun' kind of woman, and the guys at A&L have never made me feel like I am any less important than younger or competitive or really hard-core athletes.

I’ve always had excellent customer service and quality work at Stream and Wood. It’s been my go to place.

Check out the manufacturers websites and see which you prefer aesthetically (kinda a big deal to some).  
Giant, Specialized or Rocky Mountain, head to Stream.  
Norco or Trek, head to A&L.  
You'll be happy with either shop.

I went to both places I would say they are both comparable for services. Not all bikes are the same so you have to check at both places, ask questions and first step of all try the bike go for a ride around the block.  
I prefer A&L myself because I have been going there for years I know them they know me and also better location for me although Stream & wood has bigger parking spots.  
I love bikes I own 5 myself.

Their both great places! Our son bought his bike at Stream N Wood! Just your own preference !! Good luck!

All three of these places sell good bikes. Pick a price point you want to spend. Visit all 3 places and make a list of what falls in that price range. One thing to check out is the next bike up, how much extra is it and what benefits do you get. Sometimes it is best to save a little more to get a lot more bike. Buying last year stock is a good value too. I ended up buying a last year model for a lot cheaper plus with better components.

I've been going to A&L for years.Would really recommend them.
