Question re salon gift certificate

I bought a gift certificate for a service in a salon in town from a specific employee. My problem is that she has since acquired a position with another salon and the owner of the initial salon is not responding to my request for a refund. I made the check out to the owner of the salon and she put the name of the girl on the certificate.
Just wondering if anyone knows how this type of thing works.
