Does Sobeys and Shoppers Drug Mart accept Shoppers Mall Gift Cards?

Last Christmas I bought Shoppers Mall gift cards and was told Sobeys accepted them. Then tried to use it at Sobeys and was told they don't. They were aware, and they were slightly irritated with the mall for it.

Just give cash, good anywhere .  
They don’t expire, good anywhere and when the store closes can be used another store.

I would ask the Guest Services at Shopper's Mall to be sure. Read the fine print on the back of the card just in case and ask them about the policy on declining Gift Card values  
 
Just be aware that Shopper's Mall Gift Cards might deduct an administration fee each month if not activated and used within a year. I don't agree with this, so best to check before you purchase.

If you want a Sobey's or Shopper's Gift card, I would do them separately.  
 
I noticed my own Shopper's Mall gift card decreasing in value as time went on.

At Sobeys we for sure take them  
If the cashier is new, or using self checkout, it is rung in under Mastercard

How would a Brandon Shopper's Mall Gift card recipient (unless they read this here) know the general Mall Gift Card can be used at Sobey's and furthermore goes under 'Mastercard'?  
 
I guess a person has to be sure they go to a cashier that knows this or has been trained to accept them. Maybe the Sobey's Grocery Store and new Shopper's Drug store can have signs saying they accept Brandon Shopper's Mall Gift Cards or better yet, the Shoppers Mall can go over the terms of Gift Cards when selling them (losing $ over time if you don't use.)

Shoppers drug mart in the mall takes shoppers mall gift cards. Used up the rest of mine last week.

Make sure to use it all we go to use it. There is a fee that comes off each month so you may end up with nothing if you don’t use it.

Hmm. That's interesting. My wife's parents give me a gift card every year at Christmas and I used the last 2 years of cards last week. One was never used and the other was a partial one from 2 years ago that I had used a bit of. There was no fees charged and it was the exact amount remaining as I wrote it on the card 2 years ago when I used it.

I thought the laws changed a couple of years ago that made it so you couldn’t be charged fees for inactivity ?

I’m pretty sure they changed the rules on taking money off the cards. We’ve never had a problem with ours. I think you just can’t use the cards at Gateway Newstand, and Tim Hortons. They have a sign at guest services that says where the cards can’t be used in the mall.
