There are ones that can burn from TV or VHS to DVD direct. I have one that can write to internal Hard Drive, and you can edit and save only what you want. It's great for converting home movies, old VHS tapes, etc.

Hard Drive burners are a bit more money, but you can find them used and very good quality.
