was shopping at a store in brandon today and saw they were simply throwing all their bedding plants and trees in the trash. unbelievable! they were reduced by 30% and not moving so they just trash them. your thoughts?

Some could maybe go to retirement homes. Big company's would rather throw stuff away then try to move them.

I wasn't able to finish buying all my plants this year for some reason, but would have bought some soon . Sure a lot of people think the same way.. REAL SHAME

I know it seems like a waste but how long can they keep them for and if you started giving them away people won't buy them they will just wait and try and get them for free. Was talking with the local baker in our town years ago and remember him saying that they used to sell the day old baked goods the following day at a discount but they had to quit because people stopped buying the fresh products and waited for the day old stuff instead. He said it is actually better for his bottom line to give it to the local farmer for his pigs then it was to sell it at a reduced price.

Not as much of a waste as paying staff to water and take care of these items that no one is buying anyway.

I bought a $30 tomato plant that was marked down to $4 because it was almost dead....I took it home gave it some of the water out of my fish tank (makes great plant food cause its all organic) and it came back beautifully! I now have more than 11 little tomatoes with more coming! Where did you see these plants in the garbage? I'd love to go "rescue" them. I'm on a very low income (I am sick in the hospital a LOT and live on medical disability benefits with my young child, money is tight)...but love to garden! I built my own raised flower beds this year, and I have the nicest yard in my MB.Housing complex! A few neighbours have asked me to help them build flower beds also! I Would've planted more in my garden, but my yard money I saved up...ran out. It's not stealing if its in the dumpster...right? Inbox me with the store you were at...if I can bring the plants back to healthy I will give you some for your hard also! Thank you SO much!

I could donate some to the retirement residence that went up by my house, once the plants are healthy again.....just a thought. I'd give them to neighbours in my neighborhood...but, sadly, their children would wreck them as soon as they were planted.
