Bought a pair of Manitobah Mukluks, a proud Canadian company, proudly indigenous. They even issue a Certificate of Authenticity claiming the guarantee that the product purchased was made by a Canadian Aboriginal Company.  
 
Imagine my surprise and disappointment when I received my purchase to find that the mukluks and slippers both came in packages stating "Made In Vietnam".  
 
Sad that this company uses it's heritage to promote itself, then out sources it work to another country where there is the possibility of child labours doing the work. Bit shameful if you ask me.  
 
Won't be purchasing from Manitobah Mukluks again.

That it's a pretty 'normal' company- cheapest labor overseas, makes a big profit, etc  
 
But that it highly monopolizes on it's original image of hiring indigenous peoples to work, gives back to that community, and being Made in Canada. When that isn't necessarily true

Are they waterproof? When I was searching online for a pair, I noticed that if you clicked "Made in Canada" there were no waterproof options. I had to order waterproof ones, so I'm guessing they had to be made somewhere else. They still have Vibram soles though, so perhaps there are parts that are Canadian and parts from overseas? Not sure: but I do trust that they will make and assemble whatever they can from Canada.

When I looked not long ago, they did have a waterproof pair. Did you check their Storyboots area? It might be in there...I just don't remember at the moment.

If you go to their webpage, they are very upfront about what parts of their business and production are local and what parts aren't.  
 
I for one, will continue to support Manitobah Mukluks for their superior quality, variety of products, respect of indigenous culture, and community involvement.

I have read enough double speak in my time to recognize that they are simply re-sellers. They buy from a foreign supplier for resale.  
 
All they seem to imply, is that they are "Indigenous–owned", a term that means nothing.

I agree with you. I too will continue to support them. I love their product.  
Also If you look into frequently asked questions, it tells you that in the catalogue and online, it says "made in Canada" beside the products that are made here. It also does not hide the fact that they do produce the product in other countries so they have more resources and more product to reach more places. Which in turn means more money to put into our communities.

I paid the extra price for the made in Canada ones. The online catalogue was very clear about International Assembly and Canadian made.

Manitobah Mukluks is grew to the point that the style of the footwear became a worldwide trend. They created a demand for the product and now they need to fill it, lest another producer snap at the opportunity.  
 
It's a good thing they have evolved to hold the market as a Canadian company, as well as continue to provide indigenous artisans in Canada an outlet for sharing and selling their work.  
 
I would reconsider ending your support as they do seem to give back to the community more than many would reasonably expect from many other companies.

Look up white feather if u want some hand made manitoba local footwear, jackets, mitts anything. Manitoba fur and leather. Any kind of bead work if wanted. Rubber soles available if wanted also. I believe they have a store in Winnipeg and in the pas manitoba.
