Hey everyone. Just trying to get a consensus wether or not there might be a market for a plumbing , heating and renovation company In the riding mountain area. I’ve just opened a business In Brandon and in the process of beginning to advertise. Im a ticketed plumber, gas fitter, and all around handyman. I specialize In full bathroom Renovations but really I do anything interior so my thoughts are my girlfriend and I are early 30’s, love the outdoors, love the people and love all the activities the park has to offer. So Provided there’s sustainability we’d like to call the area home. Is there a market?

I own a seasonal cottage and know I have trouble getting a plumber up there between May and September. When I can find someone it is usually a long wait. Not sure what the demand would be like in the winter months.

Are you speaking of the Riding Mountain Park area or the actual town of Riding Mountain?

Onanole area. And thanks tomi. Good Info. Would you say it’s more just service work or ( repairs, replacements etc). Or are people doing renovations as well. ? I’m thinking not but is there gas in the area? Or all electric furnaces ?

Personally own a cottage in that area but I do know a few people that do and it’s sometimes difficult to find anyone to do anything! You usually have to book months in advance to get things done and the ones that do work in that area seem to overbook and there are constant delays.

I think in general it's hard to find small job contractors in rural areas.

Gords plumbing is the big name in town and handle a large part of the work. Several others travel from Minnedosa, Neepawa, Dauphin, and even Brandon.  
Theres a market there for sure. It's a small town, your reputation will make or break you.

There are 2 plumbers in the area. J-Cann-Do (solo guy) and Gord's (A few crews). There is also Antler Plumbing, but I am not sure if he does servicing? We live here year round and have a family cottage in the park. Gord's does all of our work. We have never had to wait for a service call. (Summer or winter) There might be some work around the area, but you would need to really advertise and pound the pavement to drum up initial business. (Old Campgrounds has a number of small cabins that are installing running water/ kitchens/bathrooms etc.) If you have a business license for the park, the Clear Lake Cottage Owners Assoc. can list you on their website. Yes you would need a business license to work in RMNP and a separate one to work in the surrounding Municipality of Harrison Park if you are from Brandon.

I live in the area as well, there is also another company 354 plumbing that wasn’t mentioned. One thing that I believe is missing up here is someone who can service air conditioners. We had to call someone from Minnedosa to come up and it was expensive!
