A little heads up to all home owners like me.  
If you are planning to replace a new furnace unit or require to replace it by a contractor, a new Gas code from MB Hydro that requires the home owners to also upgrade their mid-efficient hot water tank to New Electric HWT or upgrade the Ventillation of HWT, That give"s me a completely shock to replace our Gas Furnace because we are also required to do the upgrades on our HWT that is kinda financial burden to our pocket.  
The thing is this New gas code is just brought to all Plumbing and Heating Contractors and haven't brought to all households in Mb.

Yes, I found out about this in early December when my mother in law's HWT went. Fortunately, she was able to keep with a gas HWT tank as she only had a mid efficiency furnace. Besides, there was no room on the electrical panel for an electric HWT.  
 
Personally, I'd prefer electric HWTs over gas. Reason being is I can change the electric ones myself, saving a lot of money. I can't touch the gas ones as I'm not certified. I don't know if there is a big price difference between natural gas and electricity, but I'm sure that the installation savings will more than offset any fuel cost savings.
