Looking for recommendations on deck stains for a one year old treated wood deck. Wondering what product has lasted well for people. I’ve read customer reviews online for various different products and they’ve all been terrible for some reason....the deck is south facing and receives a lot of sun and I want something I won’t have to redo every summer! Deck will be well prepped and cleaned beforehand. Thanks for any suggestions

I had the same dilemma a few years ago. Two years at the most with quality stain and proper prep.  
I then prepped and painted my deck with a good outdoor paint. Now I get 4 yrs before having to do it again

I pained my deck last summer with Behr stain and have had great results (even after shovelling the deck this past winter). Since it’s a newer deck I would go with a transparent or semi transparent stain so that you can see the wood grain..... I think the water based actually lasts longer than the oil based. Also make sure you are staining the deck in the early hours of sunlight or on a cloudy day..... if u don’t the deck will be too hot and the wood can’t absorb the stain. I highly recommend going to talk to someone at Home Depot or home hardware (they have beauty tone that I have heard is a good product). Good luck

The best product that we have found is from Dulux Paints beside Superstore, it is called Flood. I did our deck two years ago and can get at least another year our of the stain. Where as my deck is cedar and was having to do it every year with the other products. Also very helpful and knowledgeable staff..

Looking or Solid, or transparent? If Solid, the Flood recommendation above is great! Only other one I have found that was comparable is not available in Brandon (a Cloverdale Paint Product). If you are going transparent, expect to be doing every year or 2, maximum. Prep is the key. Also note, if it is a low deck, you may have problems no matter what. Moisture gets trapped under the deck, and gets super heated by the sun. This vaporizes, and it comes through the wood, taking your stain with it. The only real fix for that is staining on all 6 sides of the board, which is often impossible (or at least a ridiculous amount of work). Got to one of the dedicated paint/stain places in the city. They will be much more knowledgeable than box stores (and usually carry better products too).

was extremely knowledgeable when we were in last week. My husband bought cheap semi-transparent stain (Co-op brand) which is already peeling after 2 winters. Kirstyn (maybe Kristyn?) gave us the directions for taking the old stain off & applying Behr solid stain in great detail. Not an easy job but I hope worth it.

I used Behr semi transparent this year. Deck looks amazing.. the most important step is the preparation. I cleaned my deck, sanded some spots, and waited 4 days of drying to apply the stain, or else the stain will peel off. Remember any type of water will soak into the wood. You need to give the wood time to dry out.

I used Olympic stain and the 6 year guarantee. After one season deck looked awful. I was devastated on a now 2 year old deck. I called the supplier than the company and they had every excuse it was my fault? I did as the container said and also was one year old deck all treated lumber and then we stained it. They said closed in the bottom of deck thats why? I have 1/4 to half inch spacing in all the uprights around the deck and its 3 plus feet off the ground? Lots of air movement but the railings also faded and their not closed in. I am thinking of seeing Kristen at HD and using Behr this time around.
