Hardwood Floors

So i'm going to be attempting to pull up the stinky grungy carpet in our home and re-finish the beautiful hardwood floors that are beneath.
Has anyone done this? Do you know of any good online resources that will tell me what supplies I need, what to expect, how much it will cost etc etc.
