Disposing of grease

Hi
Not sure if this question fits this forum but it is home related. I was told you were not to dispose of grease down the sink as over time it will build up and your pipes will be clogged. My question is how and where do you dispose of it? Can you pour it in your flower beds or do you just put it in your garbage?
