I was woken up this morning just after four from one of my tv's making a beeping kind of noise. I went to turn on my light and it didn't work. So I got up and turned off the power bar and then noticed the hall night light on, which seemed very weird. I then went around the house to see if anything else was not powered. I have different areas in my house with power and other areas without power. Some examples are the upright freezer is on but the fridge across the room is not, the internet (located downstairs) is on but the ceiling lights are not. I have gone through my breakers, turning them off then back on, and nothing has restored power to these non-powered areas.  
 
My question now is - is it a hydro issue somehow or is it an issue somewhere in my house.  
 
Does anyone have a recommendation of an electrician to call here in Brandon?

Likely lost only one phase. Would call hydro first and see if they are having any issues in your area. They will also come check incoming power to your meter. If it isn't a problem on their end than call a electrician. I recommend Prairie Electric.

You are down to 1/2 power. That means, you only have one hot leg feeding your house instead of two. Ether one leg of your triplex has come apart or the transformer is faulty. Call a neighbor that is off the same transformer to see if they have full power, and if they do, look and see if any wires are broken coming to your house. If your neighbors have 1/2 power call hydro. If you see broken wires also call hydro and stay clear of them

Thank you for your helpful comments. I have placed a call into Hydro and was told that yes, they are having outages and I am on their list of getting looked at.

Sometimes a main breaker will only trip off on one pole with the other staying on and the handle looks normal so you can try shutting the main off and back on again, but most likely it's a broken service wire so hydro will have to come fix it for you

Lost a phase going into panel. Caused from deteriating cable that feeds panel. My home was only 3 years old at the time. Insurance doesn't cover it. But since then there is a special rider you can get to cover it.

I wish my neighbours didn't have power!! Worse than living above a busy bar!!

Was this the electrician's fault, or hydro? or just lousy quality service entrance?  
 
Of course insurance doesn't cover anything that might actually happen, btw...  
 
IMO most home insurance is living in a fool's paradise.

experienced this a couple of winters ago. It was strange, our TV, furnace went out, I went to the second floor and was able to turn a light on.  
 
Checked at the neighbours, their dryer was working but the lady showed me the dim lights in the bathroom. Hydro came and turns out one transformer was not functioning at full power. It needed to be replaces ASAP. It was winter and darn cold out. Hydro crew was awesome, took awhile to get the job done but they made sure everything was A-OKAY before leaving!!
