We are staining our deck and have the railings finished but I'm not sure about the actual decking as I've seen a lot of good quality deck stains that only last a year or so and then start to fade or peel. Has anyone had any good long term experiences with deck stain ...Thanks .

The trick is to not stain fresh wood. Let it age a year or two then try and find an oil based stain

I''m staining my deck as well....in talking with my carpenter nephew, he said to wait two years after building one to stain...in talking with a painter friend, she said that no matter what, if you have a wood deck, there will be upkeep, every two years. She has asked many contractors and other painters that she comes into contact with, and they all say the same, there is no paint or stain that doesn't need to be redone every few years. I bought my stain at Sherwin Williams (formerly General Paint), it looks great, did my back step with it last year and it still looks great...Superdec is the name of the stain. Ask the knowledgeable staff at Sherwin Willians! Protect your investment so you can enjoy it year after year

I second the super deck stain! It's holds up great and doesn't peel because it truly soaks into the wood, it's not a coating like paint or some other stains. Get the transparent or the semi transparent. Transparent will give you the color on the can gradually after a few coats. The semi transparent has more tint and the color is much closer after only one coat. If you want bolder color with only one coat, but the semi transparent. Excellent product!!!

I have always used Sinkens and it has worked great for us!
