Just wondering if anyone has ever had sediment in their tank making the hot water a brownish/yellow colour. We have emptied it about 4 times now to flush out the sediment but the water still isn't clear. Just curious how many times you had to empty the tank if you had this issue. Thanks

in the tank is a huge problem here. I do not usially get brown water but just a huge build up of sediment that burns out the bottom element snd over time reduces the amount of hot water available. Draining/flushing the tank has little benefit. I usually get it cleaned out and replace the element (if I can find someone to do it) once and then when it gets bad again I replace the tank. Last time my tank was about half full of sediment.

Those of us using private walls often have a lot of minerals in our water. Water heated in tank often drops theses minerals. When you notice Bottom elements burning out you likely have sediment in your tank.  
 
I have loved in this community for 37 years. Since I installed a water softener the sediment issue has practically been eliminated.  
 
Initially I was flushing my tank annually. I built a new house 19 years ago I never had an element burn out. I replaced the tank 4 years ago.  
 
Some will say water softener puts salt into tank causing a leak.

We used to have to replace our bottom element every year until we got an electronic descaler. We haven''t had a problem since! That was 7 years ago.
