I currently have a concrete floor in the basement of my four level split and I’m wanting to put carpet down. However, the basement drain is not in the utility room and is basically in the middle of the main area where I want to lay the carpet. I’m wanting to know if anyone else has had the same issue and what they’ve done. Have you just laid the underlay and carpet overtop or jackhammered and moved the drain?

You could put down carpet with the subfloor plans(can’t think of the name) but they are 2x2 with drainage on bottom sob on top

I think what Dale is referring to are the DriCor panels. They are available at Home Depot (maybe other lumber stores but I haven't noticed them). You can check out the product on the DriCor website or YouTube.  
 
As a note, the DriCor subfloor is meant to be level meaning that you would have to shim it around the floor drain, assuming the floor is sloped. It does provide the separation between the concrete and flooring so you can use whatever floor covering you want, including laminate. It also gives a bit of insulating value helping to keep the floor warmer. I believe DriCor also makes an insulated subfloor panel if you wanted.  
 
I haven't bought any in a while, but I think the cost was around $6.50 - $7 / 2×2 panel.

THanks. Yah I thought of the dri cor. It might be the way to go. If I don’t do that, it’ll look like I’ll have to jack hammer and move the drain.

We lived in a 4 level for 8 years. In that time we had water back up twice because of tree roots in the sewer. The amount we had wouldve come above tbe dricor and gotten the carpet wet. If I understand correctly, if the top of the dricor becomes wet, it will swell and possibly need to be replaced
