    Cleaning fireplace doors

    Our fireplace is surrounded by glass doors which turn black overtime from what I assume is soot . I'm looking for a relatively easy way to remove the black stuff . So far the only way to get at least some off is foaming scouring pads , but it takes forever , and I have to scrub until I think my arms are going to fall off . Any solutions ?

    The person whom installed our fireplace suggested, stove top cleaner. The type for the glass stove tops. Worked for me.

    With some of the ash from inside of the stove. The ash acts as a scouring pad to clean the glass and it comes out as polished as can be.

    My dad has always just used a straight blade razor and scraped it off. Never done it personally though.

    We use this method as well. Can not remember who told us this....works great!

    I do same thing. Take a slightly wet paper towel, dip into ash, and rub on the glass.  
    Works great.

    Might be time to have the fireplace serviced. Black soot is casued by improper flame combustion. Cleaning the burners, etc and ensuring proper air flow may help with combustion. I service fireplaces if anyone needs. Rays fireplace sells a good glass cleaner. I wouldn't use anything other than specified fireplace glass cleaners myself. Other products in some cases can fog the glass when heated

    Is amazing for taking off soot from glass doors.  
    I use the knock off brands as well and they work too.  
    The bad burnt on soot will come off with a little bit of elbow grease also.

    I've used oven cleaner which made the job easy on my wood stove. agreed if you need a gas/propane get it serviced.
