This is my first pregnancy, and I am plus size. I am hoping to find an inclusive OBGYN. One who won’t just focus on my weight but my overall babies health—because trust me, I already know that I’m fat. Out of the Brandon drs, which do you recommend?  
 
Any advice as a first time mom, and plus size mom also appreciated!!

I'm also a larger person, and I've had zero issues with my weight with any pregnancy care provider in Brandon, whether it be OBGYN or midwife. You do need to be a bit conscious about your weight gain (don't gain as much), but you should still gain. I always ended up weighing less immediately after birth than I did pre-pregnancy even though I usually gained 15-20 lbs during my pregnancies.  
 
You might be offered some additional screening if you are very obese, as it does put you at higher risk for certain complications.  
 
If you haven't selected your care provider, I highly recommend the midwives. They are part of our health system and there is no fees, and are experts at normal childbirth. I've had 4/5 babies under midwives and can't say enough good things about the compassionate, holistic care they provide.

I do not recommend Dr Shummagan. He has a horrible bedside manner. He will tell you you are too fat. He told me I was too fat to push and wanted to do a c-section.  
I told him no and with the help of the wonderful nurses at the hospital I pushed and pushed and the only time the dr was in the room was to catch.

As much as I love Dr. Helms and get a kick out of his comments he has made I would not go to him if sensitive. His bedside manner is not the best unless you have a tough skin. I am not plus size but he was always making comments about my weight gain.

Dr Helms retired and is no longer practicing in Brandon.

I would agree with the timents posted previously and agree that Dr Shunmagan has a horrible bedside manner. I regret having him for my first birth. I’ve had two babies under the midwives and they are excellent.

I do not recommend KASI because she will only give you five minutes of her time and not focus on your pregnancy. She was rude

I liked Dr. Shunmugan. Had him for all my pregnancies. He has a bit of a dry sense of humor, but so do I.  
I'm overweight and I don't remember him ever commenting about it. He had my best interests in mind.
