Baby eating issues

OK so my son is now 10 months old and i am having eating issues. First off hes very picky and hes small so i usually feed him what he will eat. He will either eat puree or else fingure food.. He hates mashed and strained. But I have to feed it to him. He rarly will pick up fingure food and eat it. How old were your kids when they started picking up food and eating it and using a spoon? How did you make them accomplish that? What are some good food ideas to try? Food is really stessing me out HELP
