Over-involved Parents?
4/3/2007 at 6:23 PM
I don't have any children and I'm interested to get the opinions of people who do have children. We are currently hiring at work. Several people have been interviewed and management hasn't found a suitable candidate. Already we have had a couple of parents come in to find out why their teen had not been hired/what could be done in a future interview/clarifying information the teen gave. I find this incredibly inappropriate.
First of all, if the child is mature enough to work, he/she should be mature enough to handle this themselves. Secondly, I'm left with the impression that whenever "Johnnie" has a problem at work, Mommy and Daddy are going to step in.
To me, the disappointment that comes with not getting a job you really want is part of life. No one gets every job they apply or interview for. If the teen wants to know what they could do next time, they should contact the company. I think these parents are doing their teens a disservice. What does everyone else think?
