Stage Mothers and Fathers....Perfect children? Just wrong
5/21/2007 at 3:36 PM
Watching Dr. Phil (sorry it's Monday of the long weekend) and there are stage mothers galore on there crying because little Ruthie didn't make a cut.
These people are extreme, but we also see them in everyday life here in Brandon with hockey, school and the whole life spectre.
"My Johnny and Janie are the best of the best"
It's great that a kid may have talent, but how subjective can a parent be?
I think it's important to encourage and guide them at a nice pace when you see talent such as photography, art, sports or singing, but to push a kid intensely is really messing them up.
We had friends whose kids could do no wrong and they ended up alienting themselves with everybody that crossed their path because of it. It was just too sickening to listen to how darling and sweet they always are.
Kids will indeed have talent, but to be blind to any wrongdoings on their part puts everyone at unease.
Kids are human beings and need guidance and love, but they are never perfect. I feel sorry for the kids themselves as they are pushed so far and so hard.
