So I'm in a rock and a hard place again. My mother in law became very ill last year and could no longer watch my toddler. She has been such a godsend as I hadn't been able procure a daycare spot at the time. Now since then I am on my 2nd daycare and it is closing suddenly. I am sick of thinking about putting my daughter into a private daycare again. I have been on the daycare list on the government since I was 4 months pregnant and not one phone call. Does anyone know how to get a spot in a public daycare. Is there someone I can call or someone I can beg!! My mother in law can watch her for a while until I can find a spot but I am desperate but cautious of another private daycare.

Try calling all the daycare centres and asking if they have any openings. Don't rely on the registry.  
 
There are a lot of great private daycares too. Just ask for references!

Call all the daycares you can let them know you were on the registry and need a spot desperately, August tends to be the best time because preschool kids are moving to part time school spots opening room up for younger children on the floor. Good luck!

Yes call ALL the day care centers. People get lost on the registry.

1st, OP call, call, and call. The registry has never worked as intended. I am guessing the province forgot to consult with centres to see if they actually had the ability or resources to use the system. Directors at many of the centres will not even try to hide that they don't use the registry.  
 
2nd, the extra bribe money being sent out by the Conservatives pales to the Liberal plan, which would help over 90% of Canadian families. The NDP is even a better option with a plan for daycare.

I just gave up my spot at Magical Memories, my girl will be in kindergarten in fall, and it's summer so she's gonna hang out at home. Since I'm stayin home this fall also, I won't be using my baby spot in Nov too. Homeschooling one of my older girls, as the BSD is not helping her progress.

I, too, have had my son on the registry since before he was born. Not one phone call in two and a half years! But I started phoning the centres a couple of months ago, and by my second follow up call, one of the daycares had a spot for him! I'm not sure exactly how the centres use the registry, but it seems that most places still take their own wait lists.
