I am sure this has been talked about many times. But I am wondering if the only way to get into a daycare centre is by registering online? Can we still call centres or do they just say go online.. I don't need an infant spot so hopefully that helps a little bit

I phoned daycare centers and they told me they go by the list on line. But I know a few home daycares that don't like the online thing and prefer phone calls. But calling all the home daycares is a lot of work!

I haven't worked in centres for about 4.5 years but at that time, we still took down names of parents who called. At one of the centres I worked at, they seemed to get in faster because if they called when a spot was open, the director would offer it. Not sure how they do it now though!!  
 
If you need subsidy, licensed home daycares that accept govt grant money can help you out too, if you're interested in home daycare. Send emails to those on ebrandon (Childcare classified section) and check out the Brandon mb Childcare Facebook page as well. I'm not entirely sure how many but licensed homes aren't as common as private it seems. I know a few providers with openings right now but they are private. If private is an option, feel free to PM me and I'll pass along their info

I sat on the registry for almost a year. In April I started calling centres (needed a spot in September) in July-August I got offered 4 spots. But I needed a pre school aged spot. Infant spots are harder to come by. It also depends on when you need care. In the summer there is a turn over and a lot of spots open up and there is more availability. In the middle of the year, not so much. I would call Kokum's and Children's Den and get your infant on the list.
