Power Engineers help!?

Hi,
I've been researching a career that would involve power engineering. I was curious what the industry is like? What are the employers and job conditions like and career path/opportunities to grow is like?
Schooling?
If you are or were a power engineer I would appreciate any advice, tips or just your general expirence in the trade.
