Dating: Can one of you explain please

So you go out on a date right, the guy suggests dinner and drinks then asks what you want to do next.
Tell me something: if you had the dinner and drinks planned already why are there no suggestions for after that? Is this the point where you are hoping the girl invites you back to her place that way you don't come across as too suggestive?
I recently had this happen to me and for some reason I felt a bit awkward thinking that I have to "put out" or something because he spent money on me. I know that is what he was wanting judging by his "posture" (please take the hint with the quotes) and eye glances...sometimes a girl can sense these things!
I guess I just want some opinions from men here on what should be acceptable? Is dinner and drinks not okay for a first date without sex expected?
OR...
will there probably be no second date if the girl simply says "thanks I had a great time and hopefully we can get together again soon". (are you now thinking to yourself "there's $80 down the crapper and I didn't even get me some!")
I (and I am speaking for myself here) am totally confused on what will label me CHEAP / EASY or what will label me DATABLE because I wasn't easy on the first date??
Do you men want the woman to put out on the first date or do you want to get to know her more before that step so you aren't just having sex for the sake of having sex.
Help me figure you guys out...LOL!!!
