Where does your music taste come from and what is it?

As a kid?
My parents were really cool with their 8-tracks:
Cat Stevens
The Beatles
Lenny Breau
Ian & Sylvia
Elton Jonh
Deep Purple
Black Sabbath
Elvis
Roy Orbison
Tammy Wynette
(OK this was the 70's and my Mom and Dad were amazing with the choice of music they had)
In other words, a real eclectic mix. Country though was NEVER my favourite.
Flash to years later having 2 kids. They said country music sucks, and I agreed. With the exception of a minimal few- I kept it quiet, because it was only a select few country artists I liked.
A few years ago when Hot 101 switched to country, the kids groaned and complained like I had never heard. Boy were they pizzed.
Then, the youngest got into country from a friend and this is all she listens to now. Because she switches the stations in the car, the little darlin' forces me to listen to it and some of it I like. HEY! not all of it though. She loves the slowness of it all. She is the LAST person on earth I ever thought would be a convert, as she was totally dstraught when hot 101 went off the air.
The little darlin is instistent on putting it on the station now, much to my chagrin so now I can at least handle it, as well as every other type of music.
I am not a country music lover to say the least - I just love every kind of music.
I am so mixed up with my music tastes, as I love everything:
Some top 40
Some (!!) country
Some rap
Some blues
Some Oldies
Some newies
Some classical
Some bluegrass.
I can't handle metal.
Where do your tastes lie?
