The Manitoba Chamber Orchestra plans to launch its 35th anniversary season with a double-concert, double-cit extravaganaz featuring Brandon's violin superstar James Ehnes in the dual role of conductor and soloist. Identical concerts will be mounted in Brandon and Winnipeg in which Ehnes will perform all the Mozart violin concertos. This will be the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra's Brandon debut.
Ehnes notes that each of the five Mozart violin concertos is a masterpiece in its own right, and that each one is exponentially more complex than the previous one. To be able to hear them live in concert over two nights is a rare thing -- a Manitoba treat.
James Ehnes: "I'm extremely excited about these upcoming concerts with the MCO; I first worked with the orchestra over a decade ago, and have known some of the musicians for most of my life! Mozart's violin concertos are among my very favourite pieces of music and I very much look forward to having the opportunity to perform them for the audiences of my home province."
