Preparing your (extended) family & friends for your choice to homeschool.

Any experiences to share?
Any situations that started off negative and turned to positive?
I haven't surveyed my family to find out how they feel about homeschooling, nor have I laid it out on the table that I quite possibly may choose do this. But I have heard the odd remark (usually negative) with regard to children that are homeschooled, from family members I am close with.
I am fully convinced that these comments stem from ignorance (they know nothing and have nil experience with anything aside from public schools). If I could educate them as to the benefits of being "unschooled" then I could perhaps sway their beliefs...right?
Although, it doesn't really matter, it isn't their choice to make. But it would be nice to have their support, so that my child feels supported & encouraged. So, I suppose... it really DOES matter.
