Does anyone know if both the Province and CoB street sweepers are all broke down??  
 
I saw one do Richmond about a week and a half ago and haven't seen any action since. Yes, we need a good rain to help clean things up but the streets and roads are a disaster. The City water truck wasted several thousand liters of water to wash the dust and pebbles off the 18th boulevards and on to the road. Now there is a couple inches of dirt and crap in the gutters and in the lanes. If we clean most of it up before the rain that would help finish the job.  
 
I am just wondering what is going on?? The snow clearing this past Winter was pretty poor now the clean up is the same.

IT could be that it is broken down as the machine has a lot of moving parts.  
 
IMO, the cleanup has been horrible this year. Richmond was a mess east of 18th on Monday. I am sure this is only the first pass, and eventually there will be another.

Drove by Richmond and 1st and it looks like sweepers were out earlier.

So what would you like them to do? They wash the boulevard, then they are coming around with mulch and laying it down. I am assuming next is probably planters and plants next, then probably sweepers to clean the final step.  
 
What is the order you would like them done? Wash, sweep, mulch, sweep, plant, sweep?

how about washing all the dirt off the boulevard then following with a street cleaner...This was no where near any planters, no where close to where they will lay mulch and plant anything, it was hosing off the concrete boulevard onto the street...

1st was done last night around 1130/12. I saw a cloud of dust as I was heading to bed and got worried thinking it was a fire nearby before clueing in lol.  
 
Now if only they could water down the backlanes haha....I’m tired of people speeding down it and we’re left choking on the dust storm when we’re playing outside

I do not care much if it gets done. Dust! So what! City people are spoiled and keep demanding more and more expect everything clean at all times not sure if some know that some work cost money. There you go my opinion sorry but in the country people have dust from the gravel road and dust from the farmers working in their field and bugs all over and bug shits on windows more than in cities experience.  
I do not think this is a huge issue even after getting dust all over me when I bike...you clean and wash that is all. Still appreciate and be happy I can move on my own maybe not beautiful but feel healthy.  
We should appreciate more instead of complain more it will feel a better day at the end.

Sorry I don't live in the Country on gravel roads with field dust and bugs. I am not sure if you know but thousands of dollars I pay in taxes go to clean that stuff up. So no its not a demand its an expectation that I will get sufficient services for my tax dollars. Thousands are spent on flowers (which I agree with) so I think a few bucks spent cleaning the city up isn't asking for much. We are trying to attract people to our City not keep them away cause we are a bunch pigs!

Just to clarify because my sarcasm font isn’t working...my back lane comment was tongue in cheek but I do wish people would slow down on any backlane. It’s easy to hit a car backing out or even worse, a pedestrian! Fences cause a lot of blind spots.....and yes, dust!! Lol  
 
We are already pretty spoiled living on 1st because it’s highways so I don’t complain too often about the state of our street

It's amazing how there is always somebody that knows how to do your job better than you do.

Who expected an entire City to be cleaned over one night?? It's almost the middle of May and we have had a few weeks of nice weather. Its not hard to clean up the major streets in the City. They do have more than one employee that works in the streets and roads department!  
 
But the ironic thing is the biggest whiner in this thread is you WMR!

The city doesn't need to look like a dump, when it comes to our streets, lanes, and property. The city has us mowing their grass on boulevards, frontages and alleys and shovelling their snow, why else do we have to do for them to save money? Sweep the streets?  
 
Our area was swept and it did look better but it was a poor job but I'm sure they'll be back. Last year the sweepers were here every time we turned around and the streets were clean! Wasted money, manpower and equipment wear & tear imo. No explanation for that.

Where was this? All I have been seeing is cleaning with water is 18th st. The city doesn't have a fleet of sweepers on hand. City gets complaints that too much sweeping is a waste of money, not enough sweeping at time of another task. How many km's of streets do we have? Cleaners move from 5-10km/hr on average. Funny thing is I have seen them almost on a daily basis over the last couple weeks when I have been around in my travels.

You're right Daisy, my bad. I should have known better than post in a whine thread on ebrandon. Not much different than trying to wipe with wax paper.  
 
Btw are you driving on these streets or crawling on them? How clean should they be?

I have been around too and only saw a few spots where they had previously been. Came down 18th and saw some kids at Keystone but have no idea what they were doing the wind whipped up and couldn't see a thing.  
 
Just wondering when we are going to clean this place up. Other then the 10,000 gallons of water we dumped on the buffalo's on the boulevards don't see much action going on. I didn't mean to rile up the City employees. My apologies.

goshdarn you got us! Just a bunch of whiners. I guess we should all just shut up and let things happen when they happen. Screw it. Who cares. Let's not bother our poor City they got real problems to solve! Accountable? Nah why care?

I’m not a city employee. I drive around town a lot. 18th street is a dept of highways issue. You aren’t stirring me up, and I’m sure Fishing Guy is not stirred up. I just don’t understand all the complaining. Everything takes time. Sweeping, grass cutting, tree pruning, flower planting. It all takes time. I have seen crews out doing all of the above. Maybe not flower planting but prepping for the big flower pots. If you are truly concerned about all of these things call you local councillor and express your concerns. Coming here and stirring up the hornets nest accomplishes nothing. Except stirring up dust so to speak.

The city currently have a closed tender for Rental of two street sweepers. In the past they have bought one in 2013, 2014, and 2017. They cancelled a tender in 2016. So perhaps there isn’t budget for a quarter of a million dollar sweeper. So if you are so concerned please tell them to buy two ASAP. I’m sure we can handle a tax increase

can handle a tax increase?! A small increase here for this a small increase that and so on so on and adding up maybe some tax payers do not or cannot handle those tax increases.  
I do not think a city looks like a pig with some gravel dirt along the streets (unless it gets to be 4 inches high of dirt) but see some tim horton's cup any littering that people leave on the ground that does make look like a pig or dump city.  
As soon as you leave the city you see garbage in the ditch it is not appealing and I do not get it people through their stuff outside in the city/ or in the ditch what is in their head for this action.

The street sweepers are out in the East End south of Victoria Avenue this morning there were signs put out yesterday for no parking after 8am Friday yet there are still cars parked on the street you would think the By-Law officers would be out ticketing these people none of the cars i saw had tickets on them

I am sure that you are extremely qualified in project management. I am sure the city looks forward to how well you could better manage city services. The city is running I believe 2 sweepers with 2 more on the way. Try driving your bike 5km/hr down every single street in Brandon twice and allow for having to travel to dump dirt and please tell us how long it takes you to accomplish that. That would be the reasonable amount of time it would take to cover the city cleaning.

Lots of street sweepers in the east end last few days. All appeared to be working imho.
