We're considering a house in the Kircaldy heights area, directly behind the Coral centre. We're relatively new to Brandon.  
Does anyone have anything positive/negative to say about the area?

Nothing bad I could say really.  
Only thing would be is every the River was to flood bad again, that is a potential flood zone.

It is very noisy up there and I know a police officer who is retired now but they made lots of calls around the sports Plex area.

If looking at one of 2 houses on Cater you are good.

The map shows police calls at the shops in the coral center, but nothing for the rest of the north hill.

As for flooding, the area stayed dry during the once in 300 year flood, so it’s probably OK.

We have lived in this area for 25 years.  
Best area in Brandon in our opinion.  
Safe and quiet.

I've known a few people in that area and they've loved it. Yeah, it's flood plain but with the protection improvements done in recent years you should be good. As Loeog says, it didn't flood in 2011 and 2014, so I wouldn't worry too much.  
 
One advantage you have there is you've very close to the Riverbank and it's amenities. If you have kids, the school is close too and is a great school from what I hear.

I own a house on 4th, just off Ross. We loved the location. We have a nice sized yard, and unless there was a detour, a quiet street. Close to school, shopping- we truly enjoyed it there. We bought in 2014, when there was lots of water and flood warnings, but we were fine. With the new work they’ve done, we aren’t worried. Only thing that gets me is land taxes went up, after being so low. But again, great area. We had 1 “crime” issue the whole time, and it was due to immature, ahole neighbors.  
 
TL:DR- do it. You won’t regret it.
