Hi all. I recently retired and find myself looking for things to do. I have applied at several places for part time work, but nothing yet. Does anyone have any ideas or knows of places to volunteer, help out etc. or places that are hiring? I have lots of customer service experience, cashiering, reception, home reno, I love animals and like helping people. Dont think i can go to the humane society as i would come home with pockets full of kitties and puppies.. lol. Thanks.

Home Depot might be hiring ... and they have quite a few retirees that work there.

If you don't need the money, I would say Volunteer. The Humane Society is a well oiled machine and apparently you would not feel like taking the animals home, once you see how comfortable it is for them. I felt the same way. There are many many places who need volunteers. From my experience, the older volunteers are getting too old to keep volunteering and it is hard to recruit younger volunteers to fill their shoes (with busy schedules and family etc.) The Salvation Army Christmas kettle is a good one from 3rd week in November to Christmas eve, but I don't think it is going to be happening this year (I know it is hard to get people to sit at the donation kettles throughout the City). Maybe next year for them. It gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling to volunteer (and I have done tons of it in my day). Good luck to you.

Can you afford to take a course at ACC, further your education in anyway? There are also lots of courses on line.  
 
What about hobbies? Do you have any hobbies? Can these be turned in to a business? Lots of people who retire have amazing skills that they can share with others. If limited skills taking courses to build another skill set.

MCC is always looking for volunteers. You have to sign up for four hour shifts but time goes by quickly because they always have something to do. A lot of elderly people work there and it is lots of fun to volunteer with them.
