Can never understand the fact that the employers in Canada do not supply the tools and equipment to enable a job to be done. This also applies to footwear and clothing, including safety boots which are not mandated under Manitoba workplace health and safety.

I think that's the nature of trades, is it not? It seems to me most tradespeople supply their own tools. Lots of tradespeople (especially mechanics) are paid by the job/piecework too vs. salary, so the employer-employee relationship is different.
Some employers have allowances for things like boots etc. My husband does. He's also unionised, so that's probably a difference.
But you're right, it's odd if you think of it that way.
